My 2022 Reading List
Well I definitely read way more last year than I ever have in my life! I’m actually very happy with the amount that I read in 2021. I read books I wouldn’t normally pick up and more challenging books in regards to writing style and also the genre.
The genre I always found a tad hard to get into reading is the “self-help” genre. It’s hard in a sense that’s it’s so eye opening that it can leave you emotional. I really enjoyed the “self-help” books I read last year which include ⇢ Lessons of the Lotus by Bhante Y. Wimala, Be Water, My Friend: The Teachings of Bruce Lee by Shannon Lee & How to Ikigai by Tim Tamashiro.
This years reading list is a tad shorter than 2021’s simply because in 2021 I had so many books already on my shelf that I bought forever ago and never read! I read most of the books I had on my list and some new ones as well; in 2021 I read 16 books! For me that number is amazing. My 2022 list is starting off with 8 books but I’m sure it will grow as the year progresses.
— My Collection —
World Travel - Anthony Bourdain and Laurie Woolever
I love travel and what better person to read all about it than the late Anthony Bourbain!
Think Like a Monk - Jey Shetty
I adored Lessons of the Lotus from last year that I wanted to read more Buddhist/Monk teaching inspired books. I’m currently reading this one and so far so good!
Bewilderment - Richard Powers
I thought this would be a nice fiction book to slide into all these non-fiction books. A story of a father-son relationship.
Why Be Happy? - Scott Haas
I bought this at the same time as How to Ikigai. I love learning about the Japanese way of living life. It seems so peaceful and zen and honestly very hard to do.
Tales from the Café - Toshikazu Kawaguchi
A random book I picked up at the store thinking the cover was cute, read the back and thought it was so different I had to read it. I am also currently reading this one and I love it! There’s a prequel to this one and I may just have to go get it and add it to the list. It’s about the small café in Japan where when you visit it, you can travel through time.
Letters from a Stoic - Lucius Seneca
A collection of letter written by the Roman Philosopher Seneca nearing the end of his life. I have read the first page of the Bible and that’s it so after reading this book, it will be the oldest writings I have ever read.
Braiding Sweetgrass | Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge & The Teachings of Plants - Robin Wall Kimmerer
Just the title of this book seemed fascinating and very interesting. I’m excited to dive into this one and learn their wisdom.
The Power of Now - Eckhart Tolle
I saw this book everywhere at one point and I finally bought it after being told by my brother and his girlfriend that it’s a must read.
I will definitely be adding more books to my reading list as the year goes on but for now I want to focus on these 8. Reading has kept my mind and imagination active. I love curling up in bed with my morning coffee and reading my book. I’ve learned many lessons from my “self-help” books and have broadened my imagination when picking a fiction book.
— Goals —
Of course I want to finish the 8 books above. Some I know will be harder to read than others.
You’ll notice from my Notion book list that I have many other titles on there. One of the big goals I had was to read The Lord of the Rings trilogy. This is going to be a challenge as I’ve tried to read The Two Towers (book 2) in the past and found it really hard to read for some reason. The writing and language in the novels are very old but I truly feel like I can conquer them. It will feel so satisfying to know that I've read such a classic book and one of my favourite stories of all time.
— Using Notion —
I am still using Notion to organize my books and write my book reports. I love how my chart is coming along. It’s so colourful, user friendly and it just make it all look professional. It’s so satisfying to look at! I guess I just love organization LOL.
I also recently got a new notebook and plan on documenting what I read in that year. This notebook will only be used for that and I think it’ll be cool to one day look back on what I’ve read.
